Joan Minor, based in Abingdon, Virginia, is a grant writer with decades of experience securing federal, state, and private foundation grants. Her specialties include rural professional health care provider training, broadband deployment, economic and small business development, affordable housing, and community arts. As a grant writing consultant, Joan excels in simplifying the process for busy clients. To create compelling narratives, she incorporates the voices of the people and the nature of the communities the client seeks to best serve. Joan has successful experience writing HUD, DHHS, USDA, and ARC grants. In her free time, Joan plays old-time string band music on her Appalachian Mountain dulcimer and enjoys camping along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

“When feasible, I love to bring the narrative to life through direct quotes from the targeted beneficiaries. I also enjoy seeing the long-term community benefits in everyday life – for example, when I see local produce available in a grocery store or meet a proud graduate of a rural healthcare professional training program, I know that I helped to make that happen.”
